Best Lawns: Sometimes It’s A Simple Lawn That Makes The Best Lawns!
What makes the Best Lawns is a simple low maintenance lawn that gives you the time to spend with your family. Lawns can be very expensive, year after year and it may mean starting over every year because of… lack of rain fall or disease in the grass. I know, that’s easier said than done. But with a little thought, it just might just be possible to create the perfect lawn.
Looking back a hundred years or so people did not have the ability to take care of a nice grass lawn so they came up with alternatives to make the front of the house look nice. Going back in time may not be a bad thing. Like my mom always said, the old ways are sometimes the best ways.
This is a good time to look at your property and see what you can do with it to make it as low maintenance as possible. Only you know what is best for you but here are some ideas of ways to start your super lawns.
- Put in more garden areas and fill them with very low maintenance plants like ornamental grasses. Plant seasonal bulbs that come up at different times so you always have color and plant fill. In the spots that do not have any plants you can mulch. Before putting in garden beds, do yourself a favor and lay down some garden cloth and only put holes where your plants will be. This will encourage weed control.
- Another use for a garden bed is putting in an English garden. English gardens are great because they take on a life of their own. There is no order and some would say they are messy but they are very colorful and serve a big purpose. Putting in all types of wild flowers and creeping plants will make for a great looking garden. Let the creeping plants flow over walls and walkways as well.
- So many people have trouble growing grass in shade areas, so why not put in a shade garden. Putting in perennial plants that will grow with little water and love the indirect light will make your lawn look better than the grass you have been trying to grow.
- I know that whole yard cannot be gardens. We all fight with many of the weeds we should be embracing. Letting the clover and the moss grow could be a good thing. Clover is a great choice because it’s drought tolerant insect resistant and just hard to kill. Same with moss, it does better when you walk on in.
Bottom line, you have options but you just need to step back and look at what is giving you the most problems. Maybe it’s time to embrace them and get the easy lawn you have been looking for.
